This shows the width of the arch. You can see the mounting for the bimini just below the top rails. It then connects to the dodger via a stepped (higher) hoop. That makes it impossible to be struck by the boom as long as the crew remains in the cockpit. The interconnecting piece of cloth unzips quickly when needed, such as when anchoring or trimming. Not the case with our first bimini. (This one is new and made in Trinidad) On the first one, we had a window with a cover over it. The cover had to be unsnapped. And the interconnect cloth could not be removed without the bimini also coming down. What a pain.
All lines are led to the cockpit via the cabin top so the crew is almost never forward at sea. Also evident is the Seagull preventer on the raydome.
